ABOUT JANINE
According to my mother, I was barely four years old and insisted on constantly rearranging my bedroom and finding new layouts …. some things haven’t changed!
My “growing up” was done in Taranaki and Rotorua, and once I left school, I got a job in a bank. I know!!!! The low levels of creativity (yes, I am being diplomatic), essentially made me realise I needed to get back to what I loved.
What happened next was I studied Interior Design in Christchurch for two years, and found jobs in and out of creative businesses before a brief stint backpacking in Europe and the UK.
Years later I moved to London with my now husband and we made the most of the incredible ability to access travel, and it has been one of my inspirations ever since. From discovering unique architecture - the likes of Gaudi in Barcelona - to visiting furniture, art,and antique shops, flea markets, food markets, design stores, hotel, café & bar interiors around the globe - and right here in Aotearoa - I simply love taking inspiration from multiple sources and bringing them together for my clients.
My skill at blending heirloom pieces with contemporary, upcycled with high street items is an intuitive process. I love the beauty of bespoke handmade items, the humour as in the poodle table, juxtaposition of colours & objects that you wouldn’t normally consider to work in harmony. One of my missions in life is to get people to embrace colour!! Imagine a plate of food such as porridge versus a Thai Salad…need I say more LOL
With many interior design projects under my hat, my ethos is to create unique, efficient & fun spaces. One of my first briefs was to help a client with the placement of his grand piano!! I offer a consulting service to establish the client brief, and this can lead to specifying of flooring options, paint colours, room layouts, furniture solutions, curtains, blinds, lighting, artwork, cushions, mirrors & any other finishing touches.
I have a sideline of upcycling furniture, saving furniture with good bones and breathing new life into them is hugely satisfying. Save those family treasures or op shop finds from the landfill. My little black book of tradespeople is always nearby to assist my clients.
If you are after a unique, efficient and fun home, give me a call or send me an email…remember it’s your home, your story.
Your home, your story.
